Outstanding Awards

The Doctoral School are pleased to run two awards to recognise and celebrate excellence in our postgraduate research community. The categories for the two awards are Outstanding Postgraduate Research Student of the Year and Outstanding Postgraduate Research Supervisor of the Year.

Both awards are open for nominations from staff and students across the university, 4 candidates will be shortlisted in each category with the winners to be announced at the Postgraduate Research Showcase 2020 taking place on Wednesday 26th February 2020. 

Outstanding Postgraduate Research Student of the Year

These awards recognise and celebrate excellence in our postgraduate research student community. We are looking for research students at Lincoln who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, achievement and contribution to their local School/College/University community, to the wider research community and/or to public understanding of their research. Outstanding qualities include how researchers have contributed to the enhancement of the research environment in which they operate. They may have had significant impact of their research activities on research community and stakeholders. Examples of research activity may include some of the following:

  • Representing University of Lincoln nationally or internationally
  • Representing University of Lincoln at conferences or major events
  • Engagement with collaborative or cross disciplinary research work
  • Sharing good practice within the PGR community
  • Activities involving public engagement and/or public understanding of research
  • Demonstrating initiative and innovation in their research activity

Outstanding Postgraduate Supervisor of the Year

This award recognises and celebrates excellence in postgraduate research supervision and support. Nominations are invited from individual students, groups of students or colleagues. We are looking for postgraduate research supervisors at Lincoln who have created the most supportive, stimulating and inspirational research environment for Postgraduate research students. The qualities we are looking for in nominees include:

  • Outstanding outcomes for the PGR students over a number of years.
  • A pioneering approach to supervision: what has the nominee done above and beyond that which is expected of any good supervisor?
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for the role and going the extra mile to help students navigate through difficulties, academic or otherwise.
  • Challenging students intellectually and helping them to make substantial contributions to their academic field.
  • Providing additional support and opportunities to enhance their PGR students’ experience of research.
  • Offering constructive and supportive advice on PGR study as well as employment and careers post-award.
