2019 Call for Presenters: 3 Minute Thesis Competition
What is the Three Minute Thesis competition?
Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland which challenges research higher degree students to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance in just three minutes in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
The first 3MT was held at UQ in 2008 with 160 RHD students competing.
Which other Universities are taking part?
Since 2011 the popularity of the competition has increased and 3MT competitions are now held in at least 170 universities across more than 17 countries worldwide.
Who can participate?
Anyone who is active in a PhD (including thesis under submission) are eligible to participate. Graduates will not be permitted to enter.
Anyone who is undertaking a professional/named/higher doctorate is not eligible.
How does it work?
The Doctoral School will organise and host the University of Lincoln Final on 20th February 2019, at the University Postgraduate Research Student Showcase. Two awards will be presented at the final, Panel Winner and People’s Choice winner both will receive £100 voucher and the panel winner of the University of Lincoln final will then go forward to the UK Online Semi-final on 6th July hosted by Vitae as well as represent the University of Lincoln at the EMDoc regional final in September 2019.
The top six contestants at the Semi-Final will go on to the UK final which will take place during the Vitae Researcher Development International Conference in September 2019 in Birmingham.
Competition rules
• A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (no slide transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any description, the slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration).
• No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
• No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
• Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified.
• Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
• Presentations are to commence from the stage.
• Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through movement or speech.
• The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.

2018/19 Santander Mobility Funding – LAST CHANCE!
THE SANTANDER POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT FUND 2018/19
In 1996 Emilio Botín, Chairman of Santander, decided that the bank should be useful to the communities in which it operates. With the conviction that the University is a vital cornerstone of development and progress, the division began to grow and so did its global outreach; eventually expanding into more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal and the UK. So far, Santander Universities has donated over €1 billion in the shape of scholarships, mobility grants, support for special projects and academic and non-academic awards.
The University of Lincoln has been awarded funding to extend Santander’s mandate for internationalisation and innovation, and are pleased to announce a new call dedicated to support for research undertaken by our postgraduate research students.
Open to all postgraduate research students
Award Amount: Up to £500 per student.
Eligibility Criteria:
Awards are available to postgraduate research students who seek to realise an innovative research project that complements their subject of study and the interests of their respective School or College. Applications should be for projects that have not yet taken place and full costing should be provided as a part of the application. Whilst £500 is the highest level of award available, not all awards will be at this level and applicants are asked to think carefully about the total cost of the project, and where additional funds may be secured if required.
Priority will be given to students who intend to work alongside a Santander Universities Network member and where demonstrable links are made to research and/or academics at Lincoln with a focus on or in the Santander network areas.
