2018/19 Santander Mobility Funding – Call for Applications!
THE SANTANDER POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT FUND 2018/19
In 1996 Emilio Botín, Chairman of Santander, decided that the bank should be useful to the communities in which it operates. With the conviction that the University is a vital cornerstone of development and progress, the division began to grow and so did its global outreach; eventually expanding into more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal and the UK. So far, Santander Universities has donated over €1 billion in the shape of scholarships, mobility grants, support for special projects and academic and non-academic awards.
The University of Lincoln has been awarded funding to extend Santander’s mandate for internationalisation and innovation, and are pleased to announce a new call dedicated to support for research undertaken by our postgraduate research students.
Open to all postgraduate research students
Award Amount: Up to £500 per student.
Eligibility Criteria:
Awards are available to postgraduate research students who seek to realise an innovative research project that complements their subject of study and the interests of their respective School or College. Applications should be for projects that have not yet taken place and full costing should be provided as a part of the application. Whilst £500 is the highest level of award available, not all awards will be at this level and applicants are asked to think carefully about the total cost of the project, and where additional funds may be secured if required.
Priority will be given to students who intend to work alongside a Santander Universities Network member and where demonstrable links are made to research and/or academics at Lincoln with a focus on or in the Santander network areas.

Call for Papers
This 3-day international conference will provide a multi-disciplinary forum for researchers, authors, artists and activists to raise awareness of intersex issues, and discuss the latest cutting-edge research from a broad range of specialisms. People with intersex traits have naturally occurring sex characteristics which are considered to sit outside the binary norms associated with male and female bodies. Intersex bodies are frequently labelled ‘disordered’ and are subjected to treatment to ‘correct’ aspects of the body which are not considered to fit within the notions of a ‘typical’ male or female body. This conference is motivated by a need to combine ideas and expertise to increase knowledge, visibility and acceptance of intersex.
We welcome attendance from postgraduate students, academics, activists and advocates working in the area of intersex, interested members of the public, medical practitioners, legal specialists, authors, artists, and anyone who has an interest in intersex issues. This conference will provide a safe space for intersex and non-intersex attendees to network in order to further the development of intersex knowledge.
We invite the submission of abstracts for a 20-minute paper from individuals with an interest in, but not limited to, the following areas:
• Intersex activism
• Intersex and the creative arts
• Media, culture and intersex representations
• Linguistics
• Intersex terminology
• Intersex and popular culture
• Intersex healthcare and the patient experience
• The history of intersex
• Legal and human rights
• Politics and policy reform
• LGBTQ and intersex
• Intersex and education and employment
• Intersex literary narratives
• Intersex and the family
Abstracts should be submitted to Megan Walker via email to mewalker@lincoln.ac.uk by Wednesday 9 January 2019 and should include:
• Title of your paper
• A 200-word abstract
• A 150-word author biography
Notification of acceptance will be given during the week commencing 11 February 2019.

Pipeline mentoring Programme
Pipeline Mentoring Programme
Following our 18 month trial, the Pipeline Mentoring Programme is now open for mentor and mentee registration.
The mentoring programme is open to all academic staff and postgraduate students (PGR/PhD) at the University. The scheme enables potential mentees to receive support and advice from more experienced colleagues, helping them to develop their careers and to understand and overcome obstacles to career progression. The Pipeline is of particular importance to under-represented groups, and provides tailored support for the challenges of maternity leave and work-life balance.
Staff and PhD students can register to join the programme (either as Mentees or Mentors) at any time, but the mentoring programmes will run on a biannual basis (Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer).
Programmes currently available are September 2018 – March 2019 and March 2019 – September 2019.
